South Carolina (SC) Permit Guide

Building a Steel Structure in South Carolina: Permits, Zoning & What You Need to Know

South Carolina adopted the 2021 SC Building Codes effective January 2023. Farm structures have a specific exemption from locally-enforced building codes. Rural upstate and midlands counties are friendly to barndominiums and steel buildings.

The SC Building Codes Council (under LLR) adopts state codes. All counties and municipalities must enforce them. 2024 codes are in process.
